This balloon, from a Buddhist temple in Kamakura, Japan, is an indicator to visitors of the eye-line of the Buddha (situated in a shrine further up the hill). To me the beauty comes from the hidden purpose of this balloon, one wouldn't know what it was for unless they climbed the hill to the shrine to view the Buddha statue itself.
